EVPB Week of 26/09/20
Hello EVPB Family!
What an exciting weekend. From borrowing the GHS trailer because ours wouldn’t be repaired in time, a football game with the view of the Austin Skyline, and our drum line getting 3rd in their class at Thunder in the Hills, we have so much to be thankful for!!
Shoutouts below:
- To the GHS band for allowing us to use their trailer. Without them, we wouldn’t have gone to the game
- To GISD transportation, and their director Josh Albro, for working on our truck well past normal working hours
- To Napa Auto parts for having the part in stock so our truck could get fixed
- To our admin and coaches for understanding our situation and allowing us to do what was best for our kids and those in the GHS Band
- To Carol Watson for assisting us in finding a back-up semi, just in case ours still didn’t move.
- To the parents that went with us to Austin, especially Susan and Victor Olivares, for doing what needed to be done for our band kids.
- To our percussionists for placing 3rd this past Saturday at Thunder in the Hills.
It really does take a village to ensure our kids have their needs met. Let’s hope for a slightly less eventful weekend as we go into our first contest of the season. Details below.

Pick-up after an event
Students may be picked up at the event site by a parent, after an event, if communicated in writing in advance and approved by a director. Additionally, the parent/guardian must pick up their student and meet a director before departing the event site. Automatically approved reasons for this include an early morning the next day due to a UIL event. Any other reason may be denied. Allowing one student to be taken home from an event opens the door to allowing every student to do the same. This will impact unloading the truck after the event. We ask that families plan transportation upon bus return to the high school for their student following an event.
If the event has a prelims/finals format, students must stay until after the finals performance. Any exceptions to this rule must be approved by the directors.
The below statement is in our band handbook:
Students must travel to events and return from events on the bus. Any student wishing to
arrive or leave with his/her parent must notify, 24 hours in advance, a director in writing with
parent signature or email before the event. Permission will be granted or denied based on the
circumstances of the occasion.

ANOTHER GREAT FRIDAY NIGHT! ❤️💙
Our kids looked AMAZING Friday night in their uniforms! This was our first uniform game of the season, and it was so exciting to finally see the Patriot Band out on the field looking the part!
And a HUGE congratulations to our EVPB Percussion on an incredible performance at Thunder in the Hills! They placed 3rd in their division!! 🥉👏 We are so proud of all the hard work they’ve put in and loved getting to see it pay off. Way to represent EVPB!
As always, thank you to all of our chaperones, Pit Crew, and volunteers who helped make another busy Friday night happen. ❤️💙

Come join us to hear what’s happening with the band and boosters, learn about what’s coming up, and get your questions answered. With competition season officially starting, it’s a great time to get connected and stay in the loop!

This week we take on Hutto, and it’s also 8th Grade Night!
We’ll be welcoming our future Patriots and giving them a little taste of what Friday nights with the East View Patriot Band are all about. Let’s give our 8th graders and their families a BIG EVPB welcome and show them what makes this band family so special!
Please be on the lookout for the schedule from Mr. Poindexter for Friday night. His schedule will have the important student report times and details families need for the evening.
OUR FIRST COMPETITION IS SATURDAY! 🎉
It’s finally here! Saturday, September 26th is our first competition of the season — US Bands at Hays High School!
Please watch for the competition-day schedule from Mr. Poindexter. Saturday will be a busy day, and his schedule will have the official report times, departure information, performance time, and other important details for our students. Please use his schedule when planning your day.
And with our first competition comes a lot more equipment, logistics, and students to keep moving! We could always use more chaperones and Pit Crew volunteers for competition day. If you’ve been thinking about volunteering, this is a great time to jump in. New volunteers are absolutely welcome, and our experienced volunteers will help show you the ropes!
Hays Band Boosters also shared a few important things for families planning to attend:
🎟️ Tickets: They strongly recommend purchasing tickets before Saturday. Cell service at the stadium is very limited, which can make purchasing tickets at the gate difficult and slow. Pre-purchasing can also save you money — and help make sure you aren’t stuck trying to buy a ticket while our kids are taking the field!

¡Hola, familia EVPB!
¡Qué fin de semana tan emocionante! Desde pedir prestado el remolque de GHS porque el nuestro no estaría reparado a tiempo, pasando por el partido de fútbol americano con vistas al horizonte de Austin, hasta el tercer puesto que obtuvo nuestra sección de percusión (*drum line*) en su categoría durante el evento "Thunder in the Hills": ¡tenemos mucho que agradecer!
Aquí están nuestros agradecimientos:
- A la banda de GHS por permitirnos usar su remolque; sin ellos, no habríamos podido asistir al partido.
- Al departamento de transporte de GISD y a su director, Josh Albro, por trabajar en nuestro camión mucho más allá del horario laboral habitual.
- A Napa Auto Parts por tener la pieza en existencia y permitir así la reparación de nuestro camión.

Recoger despues de un evento
Los padres pueden recoger a los estudiantes en el lugar del evento una vez finalizado este, siempre que se haya notificado por escrito con antelación y se cuente con la aprobación de un director. Asimismo, el padre o tutor debe recoger al estudiante y reunirse con un director antes de abandonar el lugar del evento. Entre los motivos de aprobación automática se incluye la necesidad de madrugar al día siguiente debido a un evento de la UIL; cualquier otro motivo podría ser denegado. Permitir que un estudiante regrese a casa directamente desde el evento sienta un precedente que obligaría a permitir lo mismo para todos los estudiantes, lo cual afectaría a las labores de descarga del camión tras el evento. Solicitamos a las familias que organicen el transporte de sus hijos para el momento en que el autobús regrese a la escuela secundaria después del evento. ¡Otra gran noche de viernes! ❤️💙
¡Nuestros chicos lucieron increíbles el viernes por la noche con sus uniformes! Fue el primer partido de la temporada en el que usamos uniforme, ¡y fue muy emocionante ver por fin a la Banda Patriot en el campo luciendo como verdaderos profesionales!
¡Y muchísimas felicidades a la sección de percusión de la EVPB por su increíble actuación en el evento "Thunder in the Hills"! ¡¡Obtuvieron el tercer lugar en su categoría!! 🥉👏 Estamos muy orgullosos de todo el arduo trabajo que han realizado y nos encantó ver cómo daba sus frutos. ¡Qué gran manera de representar a la EVPB!

¡Nuestra primera reunión de padres de la banda del año será el martes 22 de septiembre, de 7:00 a 8:00 p. m.!
Acompáñenos para enterarse de las novedades de la banda y del grupo de apoyo (boosters), conocer las próximas actividades y resolver sus dudas. Ahora que comienza oficialmente la temporada de competencias, ¡es el momento ideal para conectarse y mantenerse al tanto de todo!
ESTA SEMANA: ¡NOCHE DE 8.º GRADO! 🎶
Esta semana nos enfrentamos a Hutto, ¡y también celebramos la Noche de Octavo Grado!
Daremos la bienvenida a nuestros futuros Patriots y les ofreceremos una pequeña muestra de cómo son las noches de viernes con la Banda Patriot de East View. ¡Demos a los alumnos de octavo grado y a sus familias una gran bienvenida al estilo EVPB y mostremosles qué hace tan especial a esta familia de la banda!
Por favor, estén atentos al horario que enviará el Sr. Poindexter para la noche del viernes. Dicho horario incluirá los detalles importantes, como las horas de presentación de los alumnos y la información que las familias necesitan para la velada.
¡Nuestra primera competición es el sábado! 🎉
¡Por fin ha llegado el momento! El sábado 26 de septiembre es nuestra primera competencia de la temporada: ¡US Bands en Hays High School!
Por favor, estén atentos al horario del día de la competencia que enviará el Sr. Poindexter. El sábado será un día ajetreado; su horario incluirá las horas oficiales de presentación, información sobre la salida, el horario de la actuación y otros detalles importantes para nuestros estudiantes. Les rogamos que consulten dicho horario al planificar su día.
¡Y con nuestra primera competencia llega también una mayor cantidad de equipo y logística, además de más estudiantes que coordinar! Siempre nos hace falta contar con más acompañantes y voluntarios para el equipo de apoyo en pista (*Pit Crew*) durante el día de la competencia. Si han estado pensando en ofrecerse como voluntarios, este es un momento ideal para unirse. ¡Los nuevos voluntarios son más que bienvenidos, y nuestros voluntarios experimentados les enseñarán todo lo necesario!
La asociación de apoyo a la banda de Hays (*Hays Band Boosters*) también ha compartido información importante para las familias que planean asistir:
🎟️ Boletos de entrada: Recomendamos encarecidamente comprar las entradas antes del sábado. La cobertura de telefonía móvil en el estadio es muy limitada, lo que puede hacer que comprar entradas en la taquilla resulte difícil y lento. 🚗 Estacionamiento: Habrá estacionamiento de pago por $15; se aceptan efectivo y tarjeta. Hays también dispondrá de zonas de estacionamiento gratuito y áreas adicionales para cuando se llene el estacionamiento principal. Se ofrecerá un servicio de transporte en carrito de golf, aunque no se garantiza su disponibilidad.

Entradas para partidos de Fútbol
Recuerde comprar sus entradas para el partido de fútbol en línea. Las entradas se pueden adquirir de varias formas:
- Visite a HomeTown Website y crea un inicio de sesión. Para los partidos en casa, busca «East View». Para los partidos fuera de casa, busca el nombre de la escuela secundaria anfitriona.
- Baje la aplicacion HomeTown Fan app en tu teléfono y busca de la misma manera que se indicó anteriormente.
- Visite al GISD Athletics Department website para comprar entradas.
